Two months. Back in the Saddle

Yesterday Marlin hit the two month mark!

Last week, we had his eight week checkup. Although he seems so big to me (he's already starting to fit in some six month clothes), he's right at average for all of his height and weight measurements. He's over 12 pounds, and about 23 1/2" long, with a head circumference of 15 3/4"! He was also a champ after getting his shots, just the initial cry, but no fussing afterwards.

Marlin's smiling more, though still no laughs, as well as more "talking." And he is opening his hands more, grabbing at my shirt when I'm nursing him, etc. He still hasn't quite coordinated the intentional reach for things but his arms movements are getting less and less jerky.

I also got back in the saddle, literally. Well, the bike saddle, that is.

I have been doing a few easy rides, both on the road and mountain bike, since about five weeks postpartum, with a few walk/runs throw in. So when the opportunity arose to ride in Gallup's Squash Blossom Classic mountain bike race, I decided to take advantage of it. Aaron and Paige, friends from Chinle, were also headed to the race, and while Aaron was racing the 19 mile course with Ryan, Paige offered to watch Marlin while I raced the shorter 7 mile course.

It was a distance I knew I could manage without hurting myself, considering how out of shape I am. It was a fun ride, but left me exhausted, and certainly gave me a goal for next year considering I knew that I could ride it much better and faster if I had been in better shape. However, like Paige said, I should've worn a shirt that said "I just had a baby!". It wasn't the best finish in my mind, but it was a finish. I'll take it.
