Ryan, Marlin, Julie, Dave, Seth and I headed up into the Chuskas for some mushroom hunting! Seth, a friend that works in Chinle, is a long time mushroom hunter and was our trusted guide. (No "suicide pasta" for us!) The pictures below are from the first time Ryan went hunting a few weeks ago for some of the bounty that the rain brings; we didn't quite have as much success this time, but enough to fry up and enjoy plus some extra to dry for winter. I was thankful that Marlin was very cooperative. Ryan and I took turns hanging out in the shade with him so the other could hunt, and I only had to feed him once which was quite enjoyable under the quaking aspens and with a nice fall breeze.

We all came back here for some mushroom enjoyment. Ryan put a brisket on the green egg and made salsa and hot sauce - completely from garden ingredients! And Julie and I got busy canning some of our garden harvest! We canned tomatoes, some of the salsa, and Julie pickled some beets. Look at that color!:

After all that hard work we sat down to a brisket feast, which even included some of my first ever garden potatoes!
Update: I was having trouble with adding these pics from the ipad when i first posted. Here's some from Monday's hunt, that includes Marlin since most of you probably came here looking for pictures of him! :)

Yay for homegrown and scavenged food!!!
Thanks for a great labor day :)
Once again, y'all are my heroines! (Heroes, too!) Your pictures are good enough to eat and even better for all the love you put into tending the veggies. Much, much love - megan
Wonderful, also what a great way to spend your Anniversary weekend, two trips out of Tsaile, one trip to the mountains and lots of friends...so happy for you. Marlin has changed so so much already...he is really filling out....the socks and t-shirt are so cute on him. Sorry to miss out on the mushrooms, they were so good the first time...that I hope for rain next time I am there...so there will be more..unless of course they don't come up in the snow!!! Luv you all, Gma Carol
Marlin is huge! I'm happy to hear that he got to come along with everyone.
