Pili Chillin'!

We spent a great weekend in Albuquerque, peelin' chilis, pickin' pumpkins and acquiring apples.

Allison, Sarah, Dave, Julie, Ryan and I piled into the ol' Buick Park Ave (aka Sunday Driver), turned up some tunes, rolled down the windows, and cruised up to Corrales, New Mexico, a neat little farming community north of Abq. to go to Wagner Farms.

We picked out three whole sacks (that's six bushels) of chilis, delivered them to the roasters and ate caramel apples while we watched as the peppers sparked and tumbled around until perfectly roasted. Mmmm, what a smell, too!

Then the peelin' (and maybe a little drinkin') commenced!

We may or may not have invented a drink that involves eating one of the fresh chilis (in Ryan and Dave's case that meant a whole Hot one), followed by a shot of tequila, then lime wedge. Yum.
Now we have twenty four baggies of chilis in our freezer. That's about twelve quarts of peeled, seeded peppers ready and waiting to marry pork for some yummy stew, cuddle up to some chicken for chili, spice up our fajitas, and blend with some 'maters for salsa too spicy for me.

I love fall!
