Mother Nature has her own plans

Floods, Fires, Tornadoes. What a spring this has been for Mother Nature.

We woke up to hazy skies and a smell of burning in the air.  Apparently the fourth largest forest fire in the history of Arizona is burning south of us in the White Mountains, forcing many to evacuate.  The smoke is just now extending up this way as I type, but apparently those in Albuquerque woke up to a layer of ash on things and thick haze.  As usual, spring has been windy and this week was no exception, apparently making it harder to control the blaze.

And perhaps you've heard on the news, but family members in Pierre, SD have been busy all week sandbagging and praying for water to stop rising.  They've had to release huge amounts of water from dams along the Missouri, and there's already extensive flooding throughout areas of Pierre and Fort Pierre, with the water still rising.  Here's some aerial shots:

If you're not familiar with the Oahe Dam in Pierre, this may not look like much, but Ryan couldn't stop saying "Wow" when he saw how high the water is.

Ryan's step-brother's new house in the upper left corner here.  They've done extensive sandbagging and berm-building, but it's yet to be seen how high the water will continue to get.

In other news, a mouse ran across our living room floor last night.

Shit about his brother's house! I hope the sun comes out and it doesn't rain anymore.
