Garden Bounty!

If you had asked me a few years ago if I ever thought Ryan would chow down on a plate full of freshly steamed broccoli and cauliflower with no more than a dash of s & p and butter, and a huge bowl of salad greens covered in various fresh veggies including steamed beets as his dinner no less, I'd have said NO.

Fresh garden vegetables proved me wrong today! We just drooled and mmmhhh'd and ahhh'd over that very dinner - all from our very own efforts with the exception of a few things that supplemented the salad.

This time of year when we can really start to see the efforts of the garden paying off, with lots more to come, is so satisfying!

No velveeta cheese sauce needed for that broccoli!

And look at THAT head of cauliflower!!

And it's so hard to believe how fast things grow! I finally uploaded some pictures from the last couple of weeks and couldn't get over the difference between a picture of our garden I took a mere two weeks ago:

and one I took yesterday:

Last night we also enjoyed a delicious feast, supplemented with a few things that were just barely or not even quite ready for picking, but sometimes it's just hard to resist.

It was Friday afterall and that meant time for a Fiesta and we needed stuff to make salsa! We had an impromptu gathering of new friends and old for some delicious fajitas. (Lately we've even been getting the tortilla press out for fresh tortillas - store bought masa, but maybe someday I'll even try for local corn to grind? ...one step at a time!)

Not to mention, I started the day with breakfast from the backyard too. The chickens are doing great and we may, just may be adding some new hens to the flock soon...!

Wow, I am getting hungry just reading your blog! Can you send some of those eggs over here? We ran out 2 days ago.
