friday photo

It's back. It's Friday and time for a photo.
(Yes, it is an alliteration but that does not mean that I need to misspell one of the words for it to be such. That's right - it always bothered me when 'they' would change the first letters of words to match it's partner, or even the double whammies where they change BOTH letters for no reason as in: Klean Kanteen, or Krispy Kreme. Or there might be no alliteration whatsoever, they just choose to change a C to a K or a PH to an F just to be, I guess, kitschy: Kampgrounds of America.
Now, despite my prior brief rant, I am deciding on the spot that Friday Foto would not, in fact, bother me the way the other examples do, primarily because foto is in fact spelled as such in the Spanish language, and mainly because now I'm realizing that it is just the unabashed use of k's that bother me apparently!)

This sign is about 8 miles north of here at the turn towards Lukachukai (navajo: Lók'aach'égai), which apparently means "Many White Reeds" and refers to both the town and the mountain range between the Chuskas and the Carrizos. These stunning red layers beneath the higher pine covered mountain tops is like the Rez's version of Sedona, minus the movie stars and the psychics and the money. The sign also mentions the Catholic Church, which is a pretty impressive and dated stone building, with beautifully painted interiors (sorry no pictures). It was apparently built there because it was the sacred place that buffalo would rest on their journey over the mountains (hence Buffalo Pass) on their way to the sacred mountains in the East during the creation. [This was a version of the story that I heard, and may be slightly misinterpreted on my part. And it's still not clear to me why a sacred place according to the Navajo creation story would warrant placement of a Catholic church.] Interesting nevertheless.

Wow. I really like that pic - and not sure I had heard you tell the story of the church either. pretty cool even if there was misinterpretation ;o)
AND, I like Friday Foto. F's are much better than K's!
