We've been in South Dakota for nearly a week. We got to the ranch today, just in time for me to learn what it means to "work cattle." We helped round up several herds of cows, seperate the calves from the cows, and send them all through the chutes for shots. We worked a couple hundred head of cattle, and it was a tiring day! I wasn't even doing much work, mostly just trying to stay out of the way.I would say that it was an exciting day for Jack too. We were pretty confident that he would be much more of a problem than a help at herding the cattle, but at one point he jumped off the 4-wheeler to go at a calf. He had the right instinct, but as Pam said, so did the cow. He shrunk away shortly after getting a good kick in the head.

Sounds really cool!! What happened to rounding up cattle with horses?!? (just kidding ;o)
Wished you were in Hotevilla with us today. Basket dance is crazy!!
Nice! We are having a similar vacation! Well, Dax and I are. Except with horses and goats, not so many cows until next week. And he didn't get kicked, he got head-butted by a goat named Trouble. Go figure!
I hope Jack is recovering ok! I hope we get a chance to see you in December before we head out for good!
