This little corner of Arizona, often unvisited and unknown about even to most Arizonans got a bit of fame a couple weeks ago. ABC aired an Extreme Home Makeover that took place in Pinon, AZ, just 40 miles west of here. The night of the show (Sunday, October 28th), there were apparently two other shows also on related to the Navajo Nation: the World Series baseball game where Red Sox player Jacoby Ellsbury, who is half Navajo, was playing; as well as a broadcast of the Red Bull Air Race that took place in Monument Valley last spring). There's an article about "Navajo Night" that can be found here.
We had heard about the Pinon Extreme Home Makeover last spring in Kayenta, but not until after the actual build took place. It's too bad, because apparently they really had a hard time finding enough volunteers...I could have helped build it (and gotten a behind the scenes of how they really build the houses that fast...and i could have met Ty! ...so dreamy...right.)!
So we were excited to see the show when it aired, and to find out how they would depict the Navajo reservation, which we have gotten to know in the last year. I was also interested to see what the house would really be like as compared to the previews, which touted the "greenest" Extreme Home Makeover ever done. I must say that, despite the dramatization and self-praise on the part of Ty and the "design" team (which I wholly expected), I was more impressed with the depiction of the housing situation on the Navajo reservation and with the house itself than I thought I would be. The show features the son of the household, who had built a makeshift solar contraption from junk to help heat their former house. Pretty cool.
I was excited to see that you can watch the show online here (click on Extreme Makeover Home Edition on the left, then Yazzie Family), so see it for yourself and let me know what you think. I'm not sure how long it will be available on the site to watch, but hopefully a few more days so check it out soon.

alright, what's going on. my formatting is going all haywire. does it look weird to everyone or just me?
There is not a lot of space between the paragraphs, but that is it. Hey, shoot, so the episode isn't there anymore... Do you think your home will make it onto the show??
yeah, i sort of fixed it. the first time the letters were huge even after i told it to do the normal size text.
and, yes, i also realized that the episode was only up there for two weeks from when they aired the show, sorry about that. we have it taped on our DVR so feel free to come on over and watch it anytime! :)

there's a video of the house, if you scroll over and click on "EMHE Yazzie Family House Tour"
Hi there! I just saw this episode on TV and thought it was wonderful. However, after a quick web search it seems there were issues after the cameras were turned off. Do you know what the status of the Yazzie family is?
