oh, we humans

I came across a link to the work of artist, Chris Jordan.  His latest set of work is called "Running the Numbers: An American Self Portrait."  It's a pretty interesting way to put into perspective some of the consumption habits of us humans.  here's an example:

Depicts two million plastic beverage bottles, the number used in the US every five minutes. 

Did you catch that--every five minutes?!  Check out the website for an up close of this picture and others.  And pay particular attention to the time frame attributed to particular numbers.  He's also got some other very interesting photography of American consumption as well as chilling photos that are part of a series called "In Katrina's Wake."

I say it's a good reminder to use a reusable water bottle, take your own cloth bags to the grocery...be more aware of your own personal consumption.  Let me know what you think.  Do you like it?  Is it disturbing or simply a fact of life and unchangable? Is it a misrepresentation in your opinion?
