you all know my blog posts are pretty photo heavy, so I've gotten in the habit of putting up a post only when I've got pictures to support my narrative. clearly, life without a home base is putting a slight damper on the ease of transferring pictures and all that. we've been here, there, not quite everywhere...yet.
We spent a few days out at the ranch, as you can see from the previous post, celebrating the Scarborough Century Farm and helping with harvest. Then we were out in Rapid City and the Black Hills, enjoying some time on Ryan's family's land camping, traipsing through the creek, taking a dip in the icy water. We were also able to spend some time with two of Ryan's aunts, one who lives in the Hills and one in town from Seattle. Then back to the ranch to give some more help with harvest. Ryan drove the combine, I helped by babysitting and helping with meals...I guess they don't trust the "city girl" behind the wheel of the machine that harvests their year's efforts! I dont blame them; I've learned some things about how it all works (future post topic), but I still don't know enough to get behind the wheel.
Yesterday we were back to Pierre before heading east today. We're here in Sioux Falls for an unfortunate stay. Ryan's step-father, Don, has just had heart surgery after a late night scare and a med flight to the hospital here. This is not entirely unexpected as he's already had a couple bypass surgeries and other heart procedures. He is recovering and should hopefully be out in the next few days, but thoughts for a quick recovery are always welcomed.
Despite it all, our Ohio/Chicago plans haven't changed, so we look forward to seeing some of you soon!
