It's not as though we haven't been on the road, bouncing between Rapid City and Pierre and The Ranch, but now we are officially headed east for our "road trip". Technically we are headed north at the moment, between Watertown, SD and Fargo, ND, on our way to see our friend David in Grand Forks. (I will soon be able to count North Dakota on my number of states visited, which I think is up to 41! How about you?)

Side note: so far ND doesn't seem so different from SD...well except for ND's apparently unlimited budget for highway signage. There was about a ten mile section of this:
This morning we went through the rural little town of Doland where Ryan's mom grew up. He said it brought back a flood of memories of visiting Grandma's house:
Looks to me like things have hardly changed since his grandparents moved there in the forties. Though the downtown appears to have become a little quieter:
