A lot has happened since I last posted.

We backpacked in the Grand Canyon. We had tallied up 7 (patricia)/5 (ryan) visits to the rim(s), so it was time we ventured down below. Amanda and Aaron flew out, and joined us and Julie and Dave for a great (yes, somewhat painful) few days backpacking down, down, down, and back up up out again. As Grand as the Grand Canyon can be, it was refreshing to see it from a new viewpoint after seeing it from the rim so many times. There is no overrating how amazing this wonder of our country is. [Next up: Rim to Rim in a day.]

We spent a fabulous fall weekend camping at Muley Point at the edge of Cedar Mesa overlooking Monument Valley. It's one of our most favorite places to camp. We went a lot when we lived in Kayenta, and decided it was time to go again, this time with lots of new great friends. What a great weekend it was. Great weather. Great biking. Great hiking. Stunning sunrises, each and all 3 of them. (if only i'd been motivated enough to crawl out of the sleeping bag to retrieve my camera for the first two...)

A historic election occured. People asked why we didn't partake in early voting. Instead we chose to arise at 6 a.m. to reach the poles as they opened. We still had a wait, but a short one it was. There's something about stepping up to that partitioned booth and filling in the little O's to make my vote count. [Anyone a fan of Northern Exposure? Whether you love it or never watched an episode, get ahold of Season 3, episode 15 "Democracy in America." I shouldn't spoil it (much better if you watch the whole episode), but watch this clip from the end of the episode to get an idea.]

We had a relaxing weekend in Colorado, staying at a friend of a friend's place, doing a little Christmas shopping in Durango, and (finally) visiting Mesa Verde. Despite my horrendous cold (that's still hanging on), it was a really nice weekend that blessed us again with beautiful weather.

We look forward to Thanksgiving coming up next week, which means a visit from Michelle, Rob, Abby and Luke (...and pumpkin pie)!

Patty, your pictures are once again great and you are so hard core with all of your camping, biking, and hiking. I do some 'zelten'once in a while too... but it is usually inside of my apartment. Last time was when Anne was here :)
